I discovered the book, Backyard Bird Quilts, by Jodie Davis. After purchasing the book, I have come to realize the birds were done by paper-piecing. At the time, I did not know how to paper-piece so I turned to the instructions in the book and the internet for more information. Unable to completely ‘self-teach’ the technique, I enrolled in a paper-piecing workshop with Ann White. Once familiar with the technique, I began doing birds one-by-one using the fabric that I already had aside from some fat quarters for the strip block (which I had to purchase) – and they have turned out lovely! The pattern was designed by Jodie Davis. I bought Jodie’s book at Chapters and followed instruction to finish the quilt.
