Tom Sawyer and Becky Thatcher were introduced by Mark Twain in his books, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Mark Twain was raised in Hannibal, Missouri. His house was across the street from Becky Thatcher’s house. In 2017, I went on a bus trip to visit the Missouri Star Quilt Company in Hamilton, Missouri. This wall hanging has four different panels with different scenery showing the four seasons. I got the inspiration from the book, JAPANESE INSPIRATIONS by Janet Haigh, where she captures the unique style of prints, embroideries, and weavings from the Orient. I created this wall hanging using several techniques: hand piecing, machine piecing, machine applique, and stenciling. In creating this piece, I had to learn how to make my own stencils and pass paint onto the fabric.

Markham Towne Quilter Guild is celebrating its 10th year as a group. The executive board designed a quilt pattern for members to share their memory of the past 10 years. The pattern is for a large quilt so I decided to just do the center part to make it smaller. I used ink pencil to add colour on the distance mountain view. The original colour for the mountain was dull green so I added some red and yellow on it and it turns into a fall color. It looks more lively and interesting. I also did the thread painting on it. #36x27 #FABRICPAINTING #Threadpainting

This is the third Geisha panel which I have worked on. I used fabric paint for the outfit and the scenery outside the window. I did some detailed painting on the tea pot and tea cup – it is challenging with a small painting. It shows she enjoys the atmosphere while having tea. #27x47 #Applique #FABRICPAINTING

I painted the outfit for the dancing geisha and added simple embellishments on the fans she is holding. I also created the stage for her. This is my first time building a 3D stage and it turned out very well. #39x53 #Applique #FABRICPAINTING

I chose a Japanese Geisha panel. I used fabric paint to color her outfit and I appliqued it on the sunset background with wonderful scenery. I sewed a lot of beads as flowers on the field and there is a mountain view from a distance. The Geisha’s hand looked empty so I added a lantern.
