2011 is the Year of the Rabbit. In Chinese mythology, the rabbit is a very friendly and gentle animal that moves fast and reacts quickly. Those born in a rabbit year have a peaceful and calm personality and are known for being quiet, active and having a soothing personally.
The inspiration came from the Chinese fairy tale “Chang’e and Moon Rabbit”. The Moon Rabbit, also called the Jade Rabbit, is a rabbit that lives on the moon. The fairy Chang’e lived on the moon with a wood cutter named Wu Gang and her pet Jade Rabbit who constantly pounded herbs for the fairy. In the old days people paid respect to the fairy Chang’e and her pet the Jade Rabbit.
I made this rabbit quilt with the hope that it will bring an abundance of harmony and luck.
